Sorry guys for the late update.  It's been ages since my last post.

Updates: Usual routine except for muscular pain. I used to have some muscle pain which I guess was not that bad. I think it is normal to have muscle pain after limb lengthening. Anyways, I had my 2nd follow up done on the 20th of May. Dr Divya Ahuja was happy with the progress. He also checked muscle movements and asked me to carry on doing the same exercise but increase the repetitions.  He also asked me to increase the time I stand with the walker. (x-ray Link: https://imgur.com/a/DtvvJ4C )

Diet: Same as I mentioned earlier. In addition to what I have for meals, started taking protein supplements. I am taking plant protein, Calcium and Vit D.

Exercise: As mentioned earlier, I did start with 3-4 sets of exercise daily, but I only do 2 sets a day since muscle stretching is giving me weird kinda pain. I started getting burning pain in my left leg. I called the Doctors and they said it was hamstring pain. He advised me to use hot water bags/hot packs as well as asked me not to put a strain on my hamstrings for a few days. I was asked to use Quads to carry out exercises (use more quads muscles than hamstring). I was like wow, my Quads on my right leg were way weak and I managed to get it back into the rhythm. Now left leg muscles. Not to forget its limb lengthening journey.

I had 5 physio sessions since I left the hospital, home visits. They do the same exercise as given by Inhouse Physio at Mangal Parihar Hospital. Now, I perform all exercises on my own. Physio at hospitals are better because they are limb length and complications specialised and work under the supervision of Dr Parihar and Dr Ahuja.

I think I must have pulled my hamstring while stretching my legs.  I had to stop some of the exercises for time being (eg knee press). As advised, I did use a hot bag for a few days but the pain was still there, so I called the surgery again. It was Dr Rejul and Dr Mehul Khatri. I asked them if I can use Deep Heat Spray (UK Brand) that we normally recommend to patients. Dr said I can surely use it. After a week. Please Note: I don't take any painkillers. I did take Ibuprofen (Non-Steroidal anti-inflammatory) for 2 days to ease the pain (could be inflammation). It got easy after a week's time. I gradually started back with exercise with more reps as advised by Dr Ahuja. Hamstring pain is still there but not as bad as it was. I am using hot and cold therapy almost every day (miss out on somedays).

ERC & Distraction: Same as before daily distraction rate @ 0.9mm per segment.

Work: Pretty much back to work. Obviously not normal work life as I am working remotely (from home) but yeah getting busy with as before.

Pain: Just Aspirin if you can consider Asprin as a pain killer. I will stop Asprin soon. It was prescribed after they took off the DVT pump so it's more for blood thinking than pain killer.  Oh yes, I had to take NSAIDS for 2 days coz of my Hamstring being funny.

It can be dangerous to not be taking any blood thinners and be completely bed ridden with 2 broken legs. Please keep moving around.

yeah, I am moving around. Being stationary would defi invite trouble. I do take Aspirin. In fact, I am still taking it.

I agree that DOACS are a way better choice than Aspirin. I did speak to Dr Ahuja and he said I can have DOACS but he thinks aspirin is ok as long as I keep doing exercise. same as you said moving around.  They keep you on a DVT pump for the first 7-10 days and then Aspirin.

How's it going, pal? Long time.

Hi!

Not bad! Thanks. How are things with you? Hope your muscle pain is in control now. I was having weird hamstring pain but yeah its not that bad now, struggled for a week. I spoke to Dr Rejul & Dr Khatri about it and they both were like focus on physical therapy as I'll see muscles getting tighter as we go along.

When is your follow up with them?

Stay well

I didn't feel the catheter coz I was already under anaesthetic effect. I love Indian food so yeah food for me is no problem here. H Moreover, most people do speak English well makes it easy to communicate with. Hotels do have their own hygiene protocol. I only stayed in the hotel for a week after discharge. You have thousands of good options for hotels from Taj and Hilton to local hotels. Depending on one's budget you can find a decent stay in Mumbai.

yes, I'd say India is safe.

The renovation is still progressing, not sure when it will be completed. All the consultation rooms and receptions area look brand new.

Updates

As of today, I am in the 8th week of a consolidation phase.

I had my follow-up appointment with Dr Mangal Parihar and Dr Divya Ahuja on the 21st of July which turned out to be my last day of ERC. I had developed myalgia and Dr Parihar was like lets stop lengthening now. I lengthened 7.8cm on each segment. ERC total 156mm which matches with the X-ray. So far, I am happy with this journey, lengthened almost 8cm. Well, 0.2cm less to a max length of 8cm but yeah I am happy with 7.8cm. yay!

After lengthening, I stayed in India for 2 more weeks during the consolidation phase to have a final follow-up before I fly back. I went back to the clinic and had x-rays done. Dr Parihar advised me to start walking slowly using a walker and send him x-ray after 4 weeks.

I had my scan done this week which looks ok except right leg. Some reasons right femur is slow at healing. I take 60,000 IU of Colecalciferol. It still is slow at healing. I do all stretch/strengthening exercises once a day. Exercise definitely helps you increase muscle strength. Feeling much better than wot I was during lengthening. I am still not allowed to walk independently, using a walker to walk around. Hopefully, bone/callus formation speeds up and I can start walking independently.

Will update you once I start walking without any walking aids.

Hey,

Does Dr Parihar think age affects the rate of callus formation? Like if you do it in your 20s, will the callus be formed quickly?

Hey Fitness,

Thanks for sharing the latest X-rays and updating the diary. Many congrats on achieving 7.8 cm!

 - During the last phase of lengthening - say after 5cm, did you develop any complications related to tightening like bent knee, duck ass etc. ?
- Anything you would have done differently for faster consolidation ?

Do keep updating us atleast once a month!
