nuvasive monopoly sucks
« on: February 02, 2021, 06:41:14 PM »

year 2021 ladies and gents. there is just one nail company which produces "reliable" nails. NHS bans them after finding something wrong. then after several days nuvasive recalls all nails. there are concerns of safety of some rare earth metal in the nails and odd bone formation. this is a big deal!

this just sucks. they killed off all competition. then their nails have problems. and now the world is left with no reliable lengthening nails.

this is why there needs to be competition. if there was competition they wouldve made memes of nuvasive and put them on their twitter. but we don't have any competition. seriously competition wouldve meant low prices, more responsibility and ... something to lose for nuvasive if they screwed up.

now so many talented surgeons should just sit idle because the only nail they use is broken.

this needs to change.

All doctors said that it must be solved by May. Let's just hope it's right or at least there isn't much delay

I dont know how theyll produce a new version of the nail in 3 months and how we can consider it to be safe.

anyway my point remains. ilizarov invented this surgery decades ago. and even today there is just one respectable nail in the world made by one single company. this is monopoly. its bad.

They don't have to produce anything new. They just have to determine the sources of these "bony" abnormalities and find out if they may cause biological risks. Taking into account the audit is done by themselves, it's likely they just say that no danger at all, and they will keep on like now, regardless of what really happens lol. In fact, in you read the Nuvasive document, it already states something like "preeliminary tests indicate that there's no biological risks". About the monopoly... there are other nails, but they are crap right?

LOL yeah they can write whatever they want now. the whole thing is so shady. 0 % transparency. If there were competitors they would spread news to the media and nuvasive would have been compelled to explain what theyre up to. Look how it is now. They silently withdraw nails. Nails they have been implanting since years on thousands up on thousands! and no explanation whatsoever!

This is monopoly. we all are powerless because what else can you do, wear those external frames? youd rather risk what ever is rumoured about stryde than wear them barbaric frames.

There is a competitor, and that competitor is Dr. Sarin. All is well in this world.

There is competition, though.  Betzbone, G-Nail, Jamal Nail, Fitbone.  Is ISKD still around?  What you want is parity between the competitors.

I have to say this makes sense. How are they going to prove that these small pieces of the stryde nail aren't carcinogenic. These things can take years (even 10 years in some cases) to produce a cancer. How will an internal study conducted by the company itself in 3 months prove anything? I wouldn't believe them to be honest.

Well, talking about monopolies... A doctor just told me that they expect this to be solved by May, but in the worst case they are considering to use Fitbone

They won't need to prove it doesn't cause cancer.  What they'll need to do is figure out what metabolic processes occur when small amounts of material come off.  Then they'll theorize about any danger to patients.

So is it just the nails which caused the bony abnormalities that may have potential carcinogenic effects? Or are even the nails that had no issues a risk also? My last x-ray showed everything was fine but I'm worried for obvious reasons

What doctor told you they are considering fitbone instead of stryde? Have they lost their mind?
