If you live in the D.C. area in America, is flying to Parihar still the cheapest option that is still safe for internal nail removal?

1. Thank you. Is this true even if you have internal nails in both femurs and tibias that USA health insurance will likely cover most of it? I do live in the USA with health insurance.

2. I'm currently planning on getting them both done with Giotikas with my 155k$ budget in about two years after covid but possibly just femurs if prices increase. And then moving back to the DC area for a few years to get treatment for complications and rod removal in that area. I imagine, are Janet Conway and your offices the only places in that area suitable to get complication treatment/rod removal?

3. I vaguely recall on this forum that you mentioned had a different method than Giotikas on something related to leg lengthening, by chance what was that technical point was so I can ask him about this?

4. For USA patients with USA health insurance who did LL abroad but had complications after coming home, is it common in your experience for insurance to partially cover many of those complications?

All those are good questions.

So far we have been successful almost 100% of the time in getting nail removal covered by insurance. This is due to the fact that when requesting the hardware removal, we add a diagnosis of painful hardware. Most insurance companies will not check where the hardware comes from.

Also, for people in network with complications, we also have been successful in getting treatment t such as bone grafting and nerve décompressions covered by insurance.

As for the technical differences with Dr. Giotikas, I am unsure but I think the use of blocking screws is the main difference. I have also noticed he sometimes does not use a proximal syndesmotic screw.

Dr. Conway and myself are the only ones that I know of in the area who perform cosmetic lengthenings, but I am not sure about lengthening rods removal. Maybe Gantsoudes in Fairfax would, but I don’t know.
