Anyone did limb lengthening at 5'10 or higher?
« on: February 06, 2020, 08:45:38 AM »

With more and more people using lifts and elevated shoes I feel like I have no choice

Curious at to whether anyone here did limb lengthening at around 5'10 or even higher? I'm 5'10.5 in the morning

5'10 is nothing special - average height for younger males in the developed countries is 5'10. It was 5'9.5 at the beginning of the century. One of the causes noted is the presence of growth hormones in the food. How it gets there? For example, chickens are fed with growth hormones so that they would grow bigger and/or quicker. We are what we eat

Anyway. 5'10 is the average for younger people. On top of that, some countries already have 5'11 and 6 as the averages both for the young and then for most of the males in the country. Finally, being taller than average helps. Personally, all I want is like 2.5" in my femurs. Being 6'1 in the morning would be more than enough. I can then use my other redeeming features to push myself further

5'10 currently feels like a disadvantage. I use lifts to appear 5'11 (6' in shoes) but even then I feel around average

Appreciate understanding and mad respect to the ones doing the procedures. To clarify, I am planning to do the procedure within the next 3-5 years. Still waiting for less risk and then need time to liquidate assets. Paley wants 100K for femurs and then I'm leaving at least another 50K or even 100K for just in case

I was 5'9 and ended up at 6 ft barefoot at Paleys (Stryde femurs.) Every inch between 5'10 ish and 6'1 ish is huge, statistically. In real world terms in the US, it's like night and day, in most public settings I'm "tall", probably top 20% whereas before I sort of blended in the crowd. I was also addicted to lifts and now I'm free of that toxic addiction so I totally understand your perspective.

While I was at Paleys there was a guy who was 5'11 and another guy was 6 ft from Europe. Each guy did around 5 cm. Average guys seeking to get to Tall is not uncommon to see at Paleys. It's still a life changing procedure for us.

Another benefit for guys starting out on the taller side is the process is relatively easier than people who start off much shorter due to our femurs being longer and the lengthening having a lower impact proportionally on our body mechanics.

Hi Alchemist,

How is your recovery ?

Regarding the patient you meet with a good starting height and who have done only 5cm, do you know how was their recovery compare to yours ? Indeed, there is really not so many diaries of people doing 5cm on Femur with Stryde so I would be interested to know!

@ FiveTen, I aslo know there was one guy who undergo the surgery from 180 to 185 with Fitbone (Monegal) and there is his diary on the forum so you are definitevely not alone.
Nevertheless, I do think this surgery is a lot of sacrifices and your height is really not a handicap so you should really think during the next years if your money/time cannot be spent better wise.

My recovery is going well. I'm walking well at almost 5 months post op, about 2 miles a day. The only issue I'm hoping to resolve soon is numbness and nerve pain in my shin, it has reduced but continues to linger on.

The other guys who did 5 cm have recovered relatively faster than I did because they consolidated faster. Probably one month ahead of me on my timeline (I did 8 cm).

Thanks a lot Alchemist !
It's great for us that people like you are still here !

Just to understand a bit better, do you have a normal gait ? And after 2miles, you have to stop because your muscles are tired ?
And do you have other limitations on your daily life for the stairs for instance or to do the groceries ? I mean are youn like fully independant or do you still need to rely an other for some tasks ?

I am asking a lot of questions haha but it is just to have the best overview of the recovery as I also made my mind for the surgery now (otherwise I will always have it on my mind and I don t want to live this way as the OP and others I guess :))

Thank you and wish you the best for the last month before you go back to your previous life

I second that as well...

I’m about 5’9 - 5’10

And I do hover over heads at times, but that jump from 5 feet to 6 feet is substantial.

I want to hover over heads most of the time.

I have colleagues who are 6’0 and 6’1, looking up to them sucks.

I feel short and like a kid.

I’ll get there soon, so when the time comes, hit that 6 foot mark, life will be easier for you.

Going from even 5'11" barefoot (my height before I had LL) to over 6' makes a huge difference (pardon the pun).  I know that a lot of people would say that at 5'11" that with shoes you're 6' and/or it's easy to pretend that you're 6' or slightly over.  That's sort of true.  At 5'11" I could get away with saying I'm 6' and no one would really question it.  However, that's not where the benefits come in.  They come from an increase in the quality of women you can get and being a bit above a significant number of guys in height instead of being below them.

Do you guys think it's easier to recover if you have more muscle mass than to be lean?
I'm 5'9 (175cm) and around 220lbs (100kg) and around 12% BF, wingspan 5'11,5(181cm) I used to compete in bodybuilding and weightlifting so I'm still rather muscular even though I stopped competing I still train regularly, just not as intense.

cyborg4life is your friend here then. he is a bodybuilder.

but i read in some diary that there was a muscular guy who couldnt lengthen like he desired due to being stiff in his legs but that might be because he neglected his stretching exercises.

I have a background in gymnastics and I can still do the splits and I do yoga regularly so I'm pretty flexible  ;D

@WannaGrow: If you can do the splits right now then you're going to be just fine, I couldn't do splits, wasn't too far off and was just fine, and right now almost 7 months post op I'm just below average flexibility I'd say for my age, but little by little gaining my flexibility back... did 8 CM 5'5.5 - 5'9
