Confession. I haven't been to a dentist in over 5 years. I finally went today due to a tooth (rear molar) that fell out of my mouth a few months back.....I sat on getting it checked, and now, my gum has started to swell.
My dentist advised that I will need to have a tooth extraction, dental implant and crown done. Great news to get 1.5 months away from my LL procedure.....
I scheduled the earliest date available for the tooth extraction which would be about 20 days before my LL procedure.....the dental implant and crown will be done months later. The dentist said typically after the tooth extraction people take months for it to heal before they put in the implant.
I called Paley's office to ask if there were any concerns in relation to the LL procedure, and there is a theoretical risk of bacteremia (spread of bacteria through the blood) from uncontrolled periodontal gum disease, which increases the risk of orthopedic surgery site infections post-operatively.
Since my gums are swollen I'm worried about the risk of periodontal gum disease. The oral surgeon said they would put me on antibiotics after the surgery for 7 to 10 days so in theory I should be clear in time for LL but you never know.
My question for you all, especially those who have gone through LL, is whether you had done a thorough dental examination, cleaning, and gum inspection before doing LL? If not, were there any issues?
