Hello,

Think of someone who's working at a company and wants to undergo LL.

1. He resigns, gets LL.
He doesn't work for one year to concentrate on recovery.
He is recovered. Now he wants to start working.
He applies to a new company. They ask "What did you do for one year?". They may ask for proofs.
He doesn't want to say that he did LL.
Can he and his doctor make a deal to officially announce his situation as a "leg deformity" or "accident"?
What do you think can be done here?

2. He doesn't resign as it is a good job.
He wants to take 4 months off due to "health reasons".
But would a good LL doctor agree to cover LL up as a "leg deformity" surgery or an "accident" surgery?
What do you think can be done here?

-----------

What about a college student who wants to do LL right after finishing college?
He will be asked about what he did in that period. He'll be asked why didn't take a job right after college.
What can he say?

This I think is my biggest problem.  I have a good career but if I take a year off work it looks really bad.  I am trying to find jobs in my profession that I can do online.  There are some out there but not many.  I plan to move closer to my parents after LL.  I may be able to say that for one year I was taking care of them and working from home online.

I case you want to apply for a job I don't think they will ask for a proof of the ''accident'' at the interview...
Having in mind the complications that can arise by doing this kind of surgery to a healthy person I don't think a good doctor is willing to lie.

Or, as most of us are young, I noticed that in developed countries it's OK to take an year off to travel. So if you're no more than 30 years old you can quit your job, have LL, and when you apply for a new job you can say you wanted to see the world  ;D

I know that at least in CA, it's illegal for employers to demand health-related specifics from employees or potential employees. You could simply say it was medical leave and keep it at that.

I got a letter from Dr. Xia that said I underwent "bone exstrophy correction surgery" at his hospital.  Nobody has ever questioned it.

You can take FMLA for three or four months. Company are required to comply by department of labor act.

Check it out http://www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/fmla-faqs.htm
