tibia and femur lengthening
« on: November 03, 2017, 11:34:41 PM »

is it possible to lengthen both hte tibia and the femur during the same time at the hospital? will it cost twice as much as just one bone per leg?

i'm 5'3'' and male and while it is terrible, becoming 5'6'' wouldn't be that great either. 5'9'' would be perfectly fine on the other hand, so, is it achievable by lengthening both bones in each leg?

You'll have to stagger the procedures by at least several weeks, but it can be done. Note that external femurs are annoying to begin with; adding tibias to that and you're in for a struggle.

Start and finish external tibias. If you're happy, stop. If you want to keep going, save up for internal femurs.

There's a risk of death by fat embolism if you do all four segments at once, so it's recommended to space them out.

The chances are low, but it's not a risk you want to take for the purpose of wanting to shave off a few weeks.

How are you sure you'll be saving any time, and maybe not spend more time recovering, rehabbing, etc.?

alright. what abotu the cost? do you think it will cost twice as much (not including hte time spent at a hospital). also how can it only last a few weeks longer? shouldn't it last twice as long ifyou do it seperately

Read it over a little more carefully:

Quote
You'll have to stagger the procedures by at least several weeks

This means you get a pair of segments operated on, wait a few weeks, and then proceed to operate on the next set of segments. You're not doubling your time at all.

Disregard Dr. Paley's pricing model if you're not choosing him as your surgeon, but you can read more about combining tibial and femoral lengthening surgeries here. Scroll down to the Package Prices section.

Lastly, maybe you confused my suggestions, since I offered another strategy. The below suggestion would indeed double your time:

Start and finish external tibias. If you're happy, stop. If you want to keep going, save up for internal femurs.

femur alone would cost as much as a house. i'll probably go to russia. so i can start the other bone without finishing hte first, but i still have two wait a few weeks, effectively finishing a few weeks later than if i'd just done one bone?
