Limb lengthening value of money and time
« on: May 06, 2019, 11:39:35 PM »

I cannot decide which LL method should I choose.

I would love to gain 10 cm, but that requires 2 LLs, and the cost of that (including the cost of opportunity) would result in 3-5 years of my life lost just for 10 cm. First I need to lose minimum 2 years of my life to collect the money for LL, and other 2-3 years for surgery, time in which I may not be working (working from home could be done, but I may not be so lucky)

I would also be satisfied with 8 cm gain, maybe 7 cm at minimum. But I would do 7-8 cm femur only with a top doctor like Paley or Rozbruch. This would cost me around 115k $ (considering complications) with Paley and much more with Rozbruch.

On the other hand, I could lengthen 5-6 cm tibias using external devices with a top doctor for this LL method (russian doctors, Giotikas are really good with this method). This would cost me around 30k $.

Femurs would heal faster with 4-6 months, but would cost 85k $ more, just for extra 2-3 cm.

Also, we should take in consideration that internal femur might be bad for long term (hip problems caused by the nail). And also long tibias look better than long femurs.

Maybe I should go for tibia now, and in the future if im loaded with money, and still unhappy with my 5-6 cm tibia gain, I would consider internal femur.

Maybe there are some other factors of which I am not aware of.
Considering all of these, which would you choose?

I was going to suggest that you go for internal femur as it is the safest, but then I read your sentence about hip problems. You got any sources on that?

I think my advice for you is to stay as safe as possible. I don't think you will lose 2 years of your life with 6/7cm increase with Stryde (internal femur). Perhaps a year at most. But then again, I think that may take large commitment with PT etc... Perhaps start now with whatever you can do to prepare your legs for whatever surgery you choose.

All the best.
