The good thing about anything to do with lasers is it's over quickly.  And you can use numbing cream, nitrous oxide, or lidocaine injections if it's extremely painful for you.

So there’s a photo circulating from a guy that went from 5’3” to 5’8”. And I’m starting to see this photo from accounts that has zero to do with LL. Usually Dr. Shahab posts will get about 45 comments tops. This post has damn near 600. I really don’t know how I feel about this. I kinda want LL to stay in the dark. If it does go mainstream in my opinion, I opens the door to being called out on it when getting taller out of no where. Just like when women get called out for breast implants even if it’s done tastefully. What are your thoughts on this? I’m posting the viral IG photo below.

Distraction osteogenesis with its moderate to severe pain, very long, intense recovery and prohibitive cost will never be mainstream. Don't worry. Just because a photo goes viral somewhere means nothing, people will forget it tomorrow.

For this to become mainstream an entirely new method would have to be developed.

Agree to disagree.

CLL awareness is great for everyone as it will democratize the procedure, widen the popularity, decrease the cost while making it accessible.

it will also increase acceptance of CLL.

Everyone knows breast augmentations are popular. It’s also easy to know who got one.
Guys still love fake tits. The fact that it is known is not bad for women.

Chill guys and  go with the flow. It’s going to be Ok

Its great for the doctors that want to make more money. Not for the patients that have increase risk of being called out on it. Like breast implants. If you didn't know it exist you'd just think their breast growth was hormonal and natural.

Maybe it’s time to change this mindset. Stop thinking it about a lie. Embrace it and create your dream persona.Your best self, the person you have always wanted to be.

Stop seeing it as this monster that you hope no one will discover. This is not the truth. it is only perception.

I think your are thinking of this from a selfish standpoint because its popularity will benefit you.

It's no one business. And the point of doing CLL now is because you can do it and get away with it because it's not known.

Women today who've had work deny it because it's a personal thing people don't want to share or want people to know about.

I'm torn on this subject because I believe there are benefits to both sides of the argument:

(1) LL becoming mainstream: More people will end up doing it, resulting in more qualified surgeons who train in this field, thousands more surgeries being performed (and thereby more research and development of better and safer surgical techniques with fewer risks), more manufacturers coming up with innovative and safer devices, lowering prices through market competition. All this to say, the fact that it becomes a more "normal" and safe thing to do will, to some extent, reduce the level to which people who opt to do it question their sanity.
(2) LL remaining covert: Height being one of those things you can't naturally change in adulthood, when people notice that someone suddenly looks slightly taller, not knowing that this procedure exists will not cause them question the possibility of surgery. Which results in them having no idea about this person's feeling of height insecurity (which is a really vulnerable position to be in, especially with people you see on a regular basis). *Most* other plastic surgeries (with some exceptions like nose jobs) can either be explained with excuses such as weight-loss, training, skincare (liposuction, face lifts, chin implants) or the fact that only a select few people actually have the relevance/proximity to find out (butt lifts, breast implants).

To many people, including myself, the fact that height is openly used as a factor to permanently judge someone deeply affects our feeling of self-worth, confidence and honestly, chances with women. People are just expected to be confident in their own skin, while being openly subjected to these judgements. When it becomes known that a person underwent CLL, I believe it reveals the extent of their insecurity and causes people to look at them in a different (and possibly worse) light.

So if I had to pick one, I would not want this procedure to go mainstream, but I would want enough people doing it under the radar that surgical/safety advances can still be made.

Not for the patients that have increase risk of being called out on it.
I don't care about being called out about it.

Really, I don't care about that, I prefer a lower price, safer procedure and having the support of people around me.

Note: at this moment I'm only a "pretender", I want to know more about this interesting procedure. Hopping to become 185 cm (6'1'') from 174 cm (5'8 ½''), but it is too expensive.
My sitting height is 92½ - 94 cm (36''½ 37''), my length of legs is 81 cm (32'') and my armspan is 180 cm (70'' 7/8).

It doesn't matter if LL becomes more well known or not.

Even though I live in the US I'm from a country where cosmetic surgery is much more common and accepted.
Thus we usually see articles and tv shows about different cosmetic surgeries, INCLUDING LL.
That's how I learned about cosmetic LL - in a TV show when I was 15 years old. That more than 20 years ago.

But even though most people know that LL is possible it is still a rare surgery there: too expensive, too time consuming. The correct comparison would be with a bariatric surgery, not with a breast implant. No matter how well known, few people will actually have a bariatric surgery.

Do you believe that it increases the chance of people who notice we are taller of suspecting a surgery involved though? I agree that most people still won’t think of LL even if they are aware of it but I do worry that now it’s out there that people may associate my height gain with the surgery. So far everyone has noticed something different about me but usually can’t pin what it is until a few minutes later in which they realise I look a bit taller.

Ultimately this thread comes down to people who can't afford LL so hope that it becomes popular so price drops. Those who can afford it don't want it to become popular due to the negatives socially that will occur.

Agreed. I just don’t understand the mindset of not caring or going around telling everyone you had the surgery done. At the end of the day people can think what they want but I am in no way openly telling people I had this done. That is not a smart thing to do socially.

If you wanna understand the stigma associated with this, just read comments about it on Reddit and Youtube. On Youtube, not LL focused channels but sometimes they make documentaries and stuff about LL. Read the comments on those. Most people think recovery is impossible.

So in a way if you are highly athletic after doing LL most people will not suspect anything because according to them doing LL = crippled, can't walk properly, can't run, can't lift heavy weights. Do an internal method with low scarring, do moderate amounts 10-15% of bone length, work extremely hard and reach your full physical recovery potential and become more fit than the average Joe who eats fast food. Most people won't even think you had something like this done. Even if you tell them they will think you are joking.
