Achilles Lengthening In October
« on: August 08, 2016, 03:35:14 AM »

I'll be getting this in October, as well as nails removed, and some releases done on both gastroc muscles. I also need to have a slight varus on my left leg corrected, but it can be done through a wedge technique at the same time the nail is removed. This is decided after being almost 3 years post op with still limited mobility and tight muscles.

The doctor thinks I'll have normal dorsiflexion and mobility after all is said and done. I stressed that I am anguished by not being able to run or perform squats and it affected my mental well-being.

Walking is fine, but could be regarded as stiff. Have you had it done? What would there be to regret?

yes, had it done

all my issues are because of the lengthening

if youre walking fine, then forget lengthening and accept the stiffness. You do not realize how bad things can get. You most likely want to feel  as you did before the surgery,  which is why you're considering the surgery

You will never feel that way again, so accept it and move on. Getting ATL will permanently weaken both legs

can you walk a mile  with relative ease?

I'll take your advice into consideration  before I go through with this. I appreciate the candor. What kind of complications have you dealt with? The doctor made it same that the pin hole technique is relatively complication free and leaves the tendon intact otherwise.
