Guichet London - accomodation & helpers?
« on: March 26, 2016, 07:02:43 PM »

OK, the timeline - 3rd post-operative day - discharged to accommodation! Walking! Walking? That's just a few steps, presumably, on crutches/frame... Q1: Anyone know somewhere close to the London isokinetic centre that is reasonable in terms of access/cost/journey time? Also, Q2: hired help - is probably advisable, especially early on? Anyone got experience/tips/comments about managing these two issues in the first 2wks post-discharge? Anyone done it?

Wait, Did you already do the operation with guichet? Are you in the rods inside your tibias?

No! I'm researching before even deciding... projecting into a possible future, that's all.

with a walker

try airbnb?

If you have someone with you like your wife then that's fine.  if you'll be by yourself then you definitely need a helper for at least the first 2 weeks.  dr. G referred me a helper in milan, so I'd ask him if he knows anyone in london

if you're dead set on tibias though I don't think he does them so you may have to look elsewhere...

Thx goldenegg. How long before you can transition from walker/frame to crutches sufficient to get about on the underground, for instance?

Yeah, checked out airbnb already. Just wondered what solution others chose? He told me that he has 3 people lengthening in London just now but I appreciate they may not be on here & he hasn't been in London long.

I'm on a w/l for an appt - will ask about helpers as suggested. However, I am V disappointed to read that he doesn't do tibias - are you absolutely certain? I mentioned I was only considering tibial lengthening in my correspondence with him. Also, http://www.drguichet.com/guichet-nail/ gave me the impression that he does operate on the tibia... if he doesn't, well then, that is probably a show-stopper, for me. Sad! However, I wouldn't want to pay £300 for a consultation just to discover that he doesn't do tibias...

took me about 2 weeks till I was on crutches

I can only speak to milan where he had apartment broker recommendations, but they were more expensive than airbnb

I could be completely wrong so it's prob best to make sure with him that he does cosmetic tibia LL.  I never really asked him and I personally haven't seen or heard of him doing it, so if he does it's rare...

He wrote this to me,

"Femoral lengthening should be performed first as it heals far better than tibias. Tibia may take over one year to heal, while femur take generally far shorter. Both at the same time is too much demanding from your body and risky. Sequential or repeated lengthening can be performed, and one of our patients got 18 cm of gain (7 inches) in 2 surgeries. The second level of bones/surgery is performed for security after full recovery, in general 9-12 months after the first one."

Also in Oct 2013 "Zeo" posted this on the old forum:

He does not do currently internal tibia lengthening. I'm sure he can do external tibia lengthening for you.

I asked Dr. G a few days ago through his website something along the lines of "I heard that you do not currently do internal tibia lengthening. If so, when will you start doing it?" he just responded today

"Dear SIr,

I was the first in the world to do tibial lenghtening with nails in 1993, and went on since that time. Please visit completely my website.

If you wish an appointment for an evaluation clinic, please let me know; Next available days are 8 November and 6 December in Milano, Italy.

Please reutrn the joined form completed with a copy of your passport (bring ALL originals with you at the consultation).

Yours sincerely,

Does anyone know how much Dr. Guichet charge? I have also sent him an email about the cost. This is what I got it from his website:

http://www.leglengtheningclinic.com/#!costs/c1qro
Consultation
We advise all patients to come to Marseille for an initial consultation and evaluation prior to the surgery in order to determine what your personal potential for lengthening will be. It is advisable to have full leg x-rays and standard blood tests before coming to Marseille.
Consultation ............... €305.00

Procedure ............... €44,300.00
Procedure
This covers the operation; hospitalization for 4 days, 2 months of medication and vitamins, 30 days accommodation at the Resident Calypso, and clinical follow-up sessions by Dr. Guichet once a week at the Leg Lengthening Clinic in Marseille.
Removal
Nail removal is done during a simple day surgery. The nail can be removed one year after the initial surgery.
Removal ...............  €7,300.00
