or the screw and the nail will stay there forever?

It's removed. Depending on the method it can vary as to when. (I'm not familiar with LON); but most internal nails are removed around 1 full year after the initial surgery.

There really is no rush to remove the nails but it's recommended. Also they don't really impede any activity. Personally, I see no reason to keep them.

It's your choice to have the nail removed or not.  Some people want it gone because it causes discomfort, other people don't want to undertake the risks/trauma of another surgery to remove it.
