Internals..
« on: October 05, 2015, 05:25:06 PM »

I just don't see how you can do internals lengthen and have the rod removed in your leg, and then somehow the bone will be okay after a lot of LL that most people do.  7cm for example on the tibia or femur how is your bone not going to collapse on itself?  I just don't get how the rod is removed out a formed bone and no problems are had.  Do some people never remove the rod afterwards due to the bone being incapable of going the wanted length which a person did?  Such as 12cm on the femur for example.

The bone is hard and consolidated on its own.. why would it fall apart?

with the rod being removed it seems like it would crumple or something could tear it still is in there and when taken out the bone has to heal back where the rod was correct?

From a layman's point of view, there would be some growth where the rods used to be. But I would trust that doctors put it in a way that no significant damage happens when they're taken out.

Simply put the rod becomes a part of your bone because its deep in your marrow and has been for some time. What the docs do (as i understand it) is make a clean incision through the bone to remove the rod and that in turn allows the bone to heal that cut in a matter of weeks.
