Wearing pants when you have big hips
« on: March 11, 2015, 02:24:12 PM »

One thing I noticed before LL was that, when I tucked in my shirt into my jeans/pants, my legs appeared a little longer than what they actually were. A doctor once told me I had kinda big hips, but I never thought anything of it. I realized that this was causing the pants I wore to sort of "rise up" on me a bit. Now, after LL, I'm especially worried about this, because my legs are going to look longer when I tuck in my shirt. This is definitely not a problem when going out with friends or on dates, because now I can wear my shirt out (the look I always wanted to do, but that made me look even shorter before). I'm only worried about this in situations (formal gatherings, work, etc.) where I have to tuck in my shirt.

Should I start buying low-rise pants/jeans? I have already tried this, but they don't seem to solve my problem. I ended up trying to wear them lower, but all it would do is bunch up my shirt and make me look disheveled lol

I am worried about the same thing since I really don't like tucking in my shirt.

One solution I found is to wear a very thin dressy sweater on top of your dress shirt.  Women do this all the time to hide their love handles.

Yes! I plan to do this, but this doesn't work during the summer at work. At least for social events, we can leave our shirts out (I prefer that look anyway).

It's going to be difficult as you're basically trying to mask a flaw. I think dark low-cut, straight-legged pants are your best bet.

lol, well, luckily my hips aren't THAT big. They're just slightly big so when I wear pants, they tend to "rise up" and make my legs look longer than they are. I'll try buying low rise pants, but they haven't helped me much in the past.

I understand what you mean, buy tight (not too tight) pants and wear them low with a belt.

YS, almost all 'low-rise' pants for men are not low rise at all. If I were you I'd check out H&M, Zara or Asos (online) and look for darker skinny chinos as those are usually low rise anyway. Look for the ones with like 2% elastane or similar as the stretch will stop it moving up/down on you and give comfort, avoid 100% cotton.

I live in the UK and I remember trying out Asos own brand pants/jeans. I had to buy like 12 pairs (and return 11) before I finally understood what I needed. I can't remember if there is a Topman in the US but thats another brand that would be good to hide hips and give the impression of length.

One thing I know for sure is that all those advice articles on how to hide thick thighs are just all BS. They all say bootcut or straight relaxed and not skinny/tight, and that just makes you look like a box, plus they fall down even more. I have the opposite problem, my pants keep falling down which is why I didn't get Hadrian's comments towards me (btw Hadrian I after your comment I got several pms from many members about how you basically suck  ;)).

Thanks for the tip bud! Actually, someone else recommended I check out Zara and H&M. You're right, most of the "low rise" pants I've purchased have NOT helped me at all. I remember before starting LL, I sent another guy (who did LL already) a picture of me asking about proportions. He said that my pants made my legs look longer than what they were, and I had always thought that was case.

Hey maybe you should try out womens pants at H&M. I've never done it (and never will!) but that might solve your problem and its unlikely they will judge you at H&M.

Edit:
Asos Skinny Chinos (they change the colors available every month or so). Pretty cheap only £20-£30 and stretchy.

Not advertised as low rise but they are the lowest rise I know if you get it in the lower waists.

Ha, I think not. I'll just wear my pants a little lower. I've done that before, and it mostly solves the issue.

The colour is a bit bright and the pants are tight. The 2nd photo accentuate the crotch.

....... I felt a little bit uncomfortable viewing the photo of the half-nked man on top. The pants is too low like male pornographic. Maybe the photo was taken from the M for M portion of craigslist. It looks like someone is canvassing for M.
