« on: March 16, 2015, 07:16:56 PM »

can you weight lift during LL like at least bench press?  Other wise I need to lose a good 20 pounds as my muscle will atrophy and i will thus look like  .

In theory you CAN do upper body workouts, but you're not supposed to while doing LL. Your body needs all of its strength to heal your bones, and you're going to need all your strength to get through the physical therapy that will be required of you.

But don't worry - you'll find that only your legs will go to sh*t. My upper body actually looks exactly the same before LL (actually, from the crutches, my shoulder and triceps are even bigger).

I wouldn't recommend lifting weight during lengthening. Your body is already going to be exhausting its energy repairing itself from the lengthening process. You don't want to divert any of that energy into repairing your muscles used for a workout. You'll probably feel too awful to be in any mood to lift anyway.

Idk about lifting, but I heard stationary biking and swimming are excellent workouts if you're doing internals.

Yes, both of these are your friends. I had PT twice a week in the pool when I was abroad, and it does wonders for your hips. Hips are often a problem area during LL, and they sure were for me.

I wouldn't try to max out your bench press or anything like that, but bringing some dumbbells for maintenance of what you've got has been done before without issue.

That's what I'm going to do. I'll try to maintain upper body strength with bench presses, pull-ups, overhead presses, leg raises, etc.
