X-legs during lengthening
« on: March 13, 2015, 02:25:51 PM »

hi, I've x-legs from lengthening.. somehow the centre rod lengthened 1.5 cm more than the medial rod, and the lateral rod wasn't lengthened as much as the centre rod, at least that's what dr said. I suppose its due to rod bending or something....

Is this cause for concern if I am still in lengthening phase? dr made some big adjustments to the vectors on my frames and then told me to lengthen the lateral, medial rods only and leave the centre rod intact. this program will go for 20 days...

Did anyone have x-legs and then corrected it? worried cos I have perfect legs pre-op.

I am also worried as I have two half Ring and one full Ring... doesn't seem very good for correcting deformity

Not a problem itsmylife. Happened to me too. After lengthening I got correction. Lengthening the outer screws and compressing the inner screws until your legs are straight. Dont worry about that. As long as your legs are not consolidated this can be fixed.

Lots of people in China needed corrections during the lengthening phase.  It's just something that happens due to the uneven forces placed on the devices.  As long as the doctor knows about it and corrects it, all is well.

Did the Chinese people eventually have uneventful recovery after correction of the frames??

Yeah, we all came out of it fine.  All the adjustments were a success and nobody left with x-legs that I know of.

I have to do 20 days of adjustment (ie, differential turning of the rods).... does Beijing do that too?
Meaning, turning each rod differently for a few weeks.

Yep, turning each rod differently is how corrections are done with the Ilizarov frame.
