Title: Precice 2 Now VS Waiting for Stryde
Post by: BreaktoGrow on March 04, 2021, 01:59:08 AM
Hey all,

I'm really stuck, could use your help. This surgery has been my dream, right when I was ready, they removed the Stryde nail. Now I'm stuck in the above decision to make. Do I get Precice next month, or do I wait for Stryde? Would love any insight. Male, mid 30s, femur aiming for 8cm.

Thanks guys

Problem with Precise is no weight bearing so there is going to be a longer recovery, but at the same time you might be able to start weight bearing by the time Stryde comes back. I would say if you can wait then wait, if not go with precise.

If your goal is recovery before COVID ends so that you can return back to social life ASAP, then use Precice.

If your goal is to minimize pain and streamline the recovery process, then wait for Stryde.

In the U.S. it is predicted that life will be back to mostly normal by August & September timeframe. Therefore, if you do Precice now, it's possible to be weightbearing by this fall. If you wait for Stryde, you will take the risk of taking a bigger hit on social life post-COVID.

How long does it take to recover to full weight bearing with Precise 2.2? I'm in the same situation. I can only do it in June and I need to recover as quick as possible so I can start working.

From the precise diaries on here, it roughly takes 4-5 months to be able to weight bear without a walker depending on the amount of length you do. 5cm will likely take 4 months while 8cm will be closer to 5-6 months. Precise is a great nail and it works well but this is the main reason I decided against it as not being able to at least walk with crutches during lengthening is a deal breaker for me.

Thanks. I'm planning on doing 8cm femur. I start my work in September so I want to get this done before working. Waiting for Stryde is risky because I don't know how long till it comes back to the market.
Doing Precise this June means that I will be back to weight bearing by October the earliest. This is tough   :(

You shouldn’t be waiting.  Do it asap.  You can be back on your feet before Stryde is available, and before school starts.

You cannot wait bear with precise so why even bother. Wait for stryde of course

some guy on the nuvasive "stopped shipping" thread, hinted that there is a possiblity stryde wont release again ever. the news are getting darker by the day on this forum.

Cannot comment on that to be honest but would that not raise concerns with people who have already got stryde installed? I mean, if they never release it again it means something is seriously wrong with it and in that case that would be rather concerning for those who already have it done.

I highly doubt it will be completely cancelled. If it is, it would be a bit scary

He is bullsh*ting. There is a corrosion issue and not a cobalt leak issue. It may take time and I am sure it'll be back. If they can get precise working then I am sure they can get stryde working too.

Yeah that is what I thought originally.

I’m sure stryde will be back but it will probably take longer than initially predicted. I honestly think something else is going on behind the scenes that they’re not telling us  but hopefully it’s nothing seriously concerning.

stryde probably is a million times better but unfortunately it seems not like it is going to be back anytime soon :(

How long do you imagine?

How long do you imagine?

Paley said optimistically August or September. Realistically end of the year or so.

But, he's confident that Stryde will return?

Yea I didn't specifically ask that but he didn't seem to show any doubts about it not returning. I think it will rather be end of year though.

That's great. I don't mind waiting a few months. I'd much rather wait as oppose to endure the pain of Precice.

I agree. Nuvasive is losing literally millions upon millions of dollars by not having Stryde on the market. They probably have their engineers on top of this as we speak. How long for it to return? Who knows. But, it couldn't that long. The technology is already developed and has demonstrated success in a large number of patients. It's simply a matter of tweaking a few things. Let me know your thoughts.

End of this year you can anticipate with STRYDE. Before is optimism.

I just talked to a representative of Nuvasive. There is no problem with Stryde. The reason it has stopped shipping is that a new regulation requires a study for biocompatibility and toxicity. They will finish this study within Q3 this year. Therefore it should definitely be available in Q4, I.e. October.
Other manufacturers would need to do the same. However whether they do it or not is another question.

That's great news. Do you have the contact number for that representative? Thanks for sharing, by the way.

Paley has announced that 60% of people have had odd bone formation possibly due to corrosion. How can you be sure there is no problem with Stryde?

If that.. is true...  that's a very serious concern...

Could "odd" be a problem though. I can only imagine if it was they would have brought up the issue then and not only now.
