So this is probably a very stupid question but have there been any recorded cases of patients losing any height after nail removal? Logically I don't see how this is possible if the bones have completely hardened but I heard rumours of some who claimed to lose a few mm after the nail was taken out. Has anyone who had their nails removed noticed any difference?

Τhat happens sometimes with externals if the bone is not 100% healed.
I never heard that happens after internal rods removal.

I constantly hear of this sheer stupidity on the forum. I have asked my doctor to which I was basically laughed at and I do not blame him haha. In what logical sense would you lose height if a bone is healed?
The only reason this could be the case is,
A) Height was measured incorrectly at the beginning.
B) Height was not measured on the X-Ray but instead based on the number of turns.
C) Height measured at morning but then measured mid day or night time after lengthening.
I mean, assuming that everything went well and you did not suffer any serious complications the gains will remain. No one I know in real life has ever reported a loss of gains.

I'll just dogpile on here and say that anyone who notices a loss in height is either mismeasuring or has some other issue unrelated to the nail.

A guy did say that some people have lost 2-3 mm after nail removal. It's impossible right? The bone is already solid. The only explanation would be back getting weaker and bad posture right after surgery (some duck ass).
I get nails removed in 3 weeks and I will do the test, but it does not seem possible to lose anything at all long term. Have you guys done the test and measured properly and in same conditions months post removal?

I asked Giotikas and he said that you don't lose any height at all after nail removal in internal femurs. I measure pretty precisely, so I will do the test once I am fully recovered from the new surgery.
