I think for tibias, 5cm is a good number.  My femurs recovered very quickly but I still have some ankle stiffness in the mornings or when getting up from sitting a few hours.  Of course, it also depends on the person, but if I could go back in time and do it over, I would have stopped at 4cm on my tibias.

5CM of tibial lengthening really does seem to be the absolute upper limit for it to be relatively complication free. 4CM even better.
