Bow legs or Genu Varum: more than a cosmetic problem
Well, I'm a Latin man with genu varum hereditary problems that residing in Canada for several years. I found the Ilizarov Center through the blog of Alexandra "historia-de-raisa-centro-ilizarov"
I found it very interesting correction treatment and cost. After waiting for more than four years, I finally had the opportunity to come to Kurgan to fulfill this dream.

Feb 25 - 2016
The operation is until 11:00 am, I have a lot of anxiety ...
Entrance to the operating room, catheter in the arm, epidural anesthesia and wait. I shivered because of the epidural, no longer feel my legs.
Sometimes awake, cold and I have heard a hammer and chisel ... "clack clack clack ...".
the operation is over, I go to my bed, I feel a huge weight from the hips down, it's a very ugly feeling.
After several hours, I start to feel the fingers, legs, no pain yet. Nurses are injecting me some things, I have whey in arm (I think). The doctor asks me how I am and if feel my feet. I recommended complete rest. I like sore right buttock ...
I still have not seen my legs, I will wait on me tomorrow. I have a catheter in place to urinate.

I sat down with nurse's help for the first time.
These devices are quite heavy, it is difficult for me in this state trying to load a leg.

The pain is intense not know where, but something hurts, nurses injected me and Analgil and Tramadol (I think it's called).
Another catheter in penis more, that pain ... God help me please!....

I stood with the help of nurses and went to the bathroom, I finally wee wee.... Bye bye catheter.
After such an exhausting journey (round trip to the bathroom), I'm pretty tired and I ache all over, I cried of pain because it is quite intense.
I can not sleep with the pain, and I have a Russian roommate who played all night on the computer and go to bed at 7:00 am !!, arrhhhhggg. The noise his made with the click of the mouse and the keyboard is tormentor.

I was X-rays, had to stand, walk to the gurney in the hallway, I almost fainted from exhaustion, two nurses are holding me to my side, I wish to end this quickly ...

In the previous image we can see the before and after. As you can see right leg has more deformity, so the doctor will do some extra work to correct that problem.
Basically the operation is quite simple, it is a "cut" or fracture at the top of the tibia and another cut at the bottom of the fibula. This was a closed osteotomy (valgus osteotomy). The correction was in surgery.

Here your answers:
1. Was it confusing for you to change flight in Moscow to get to Kurgan ?
Not, Alejandra Vdovitsyna (worker with Ilizarov Centre from Spain) send me a web link with cheaper flights from Moscu (Vnukovo airport). It was easy for me because I arrived in the same Moscow's airport (Vnukovo) and a women from Ilizarov Centre waiting for me in Kurgan's airport.
2. Can you say anythig about the cost for the surgery - If it is private just ignore this
question - I understand.
The cost for correction two months ago was 404.000 rubles (good for me because ruble's price is down with dollar).
Cost include: surgery, anesthesia, medicines, physio, 90 days in a share room (from 4 to 6 peoples)
Note: the Ilizarov's device is not in the price, I was 54.000 rubles in cash (not credit card is possible).
For payment is better with credit card, because with international Swift transfer I had problem with delays (3 weeks!!!)
Advice: to bring more that one credit cards, my credit card is not working and I had a lot of problems, I used my debit card but in Ilizarov Center you can not pay with debit card.
3. How long will you stay at the hospital ?
Now, I has two months after surgery. I hope stay one month o one month half. It is depends of my doctor.
4. For how long will you have the devices on your legs ?
Answer in 4 question.
5. Is your plan to get remove the devices in Kurgan or at the hospital in your home town ?
My planning is remove the devices in Ilizarov Center, I afraid with a infection o broken wires in my country!
At Ilizarov's hospital every day nurses take a temperature, each two o there weeks you have a blood test, you have support from doctors if you have any questions or problems.

Every time I go better, and less painful way, I'm moving fast. I watch movies and series, now I'm seeing "Game Of Trones".
(March 12)
Increasingly way with less pain in the right leg, this week the instructor taught me to walk with crutches, very good !. This week gave me sometimes a pill to sleep. At night I do inject some soothing to sleep quietly.
My doctor advised me to walk more and not sleep much during the day, of course I stressed the importance of good food, which is one of the pillars of Ilizarov treatment.
(March 16)
Nothing new, walking and doing exercises. I could not sleep well the discomfort of devices.
I did X-rays and my doctor told me that everything is perfect. You may go home in two months!
(March 24)
This week, I've improved a lot. Although I had some pain when walking with the left leg, I have to try to walk. Now I have one month after the operation.

(March 31)
I had a little infection in the urine which was treated with pills, I think that they were antibiotics.
Since I took the last catheter felt a strange prickling at the end as urine feeling.
In the last week it increased that feeling, which I was alarmed and informed my doctor.
According to the tests, I found several bacteria, say it is not a problem, that in two weeks it would turn out.

I'm going to the gym from two weeks ago and result has been very satisfactory. I can walk faster and every day I feel much better.

Now, I have two and half months after the operation. My doctor tells me that in two weeks, he will see the new x-ray and tell me about if it is possible that the devices are removed (fingers crossed !!)

Not yet. I try to cover and protect my frames when I stay out of my room or go to the bathroom.

Ilizarov Center's food
The diet is based on a special food for bone regeneration. It is neither too salty nor too sweet.
Meat/others: Beef, fish, chicken, egs, rice with milk, cookies, omelet, butter, cheese, mashed potatoes, "Zapibanka" (traditional cake)
Vegetables/legums: Cabbage, onion, potatoes, banana, orange, apple, bread, beet
Drinks: Tea, Yogurt without flavor, Cacao, Coffee, fruit juice, "compot" (boil fruit mix)
Soups: Vegatables with cabbage ans meats.

Yes, it is for muscle loss and fear to tread firmly! :o :o
I lost about 70% of muscle after wearing gip (cast), this is normal because it gives you muscle atrophy.
Ilizarov frame not gives you muscle atrophy.

I went home today!!, fly was very fast (19h) and service was very good. I was uncomfortable for my left leg, but I had no choice.
Now, I am at home with my family and I am very happy. I return to my job in one month...
