The Tom Cruises, Depp's and Damon's of yesteryear are slowly being phased out by the 6'0"+ Tatums, Dicaprios, Smiths, etc of today, let alone the surge in popularity of legitimately tall actors like the Hemsworth brothers, The Rock, Affleck, etc. The sex symbols of today are both taller and bigger than their counterparts of a nearly bygone era. Tall males have always been in Hollywood, but most of the ones I remember usually played action movie roles and weren't placed in romance rolls to be swooned over. Now it seems like these roles are being flooded with taller guys, and the dream guy for many girls are one of the Hemsworths. Take the show True Blood for example. Just a cheesy(yet popular) show about vampires meant to tickle a woman's loins and nothing more. Two of the 3 main actors are over 6'5".

It used to be easy to hide the weak height of popular actors with camera angles, lifts, careful choice of cast, and even cleverly-placed platforms, but with the introduction of legitimately tall actors this it's going to be difficult to continue this charade.
On a semi-related note, now we're even seeing giant athletes propelled into sex symbol status one way or another, like Kris Humphries. I don't remember hearing any giants being considered sex symbols years ago, but now that day is upon us.

There is something going on in Hollywood, I agree. I've noticed that BY FAR the most popular height for male celebrities listen on Bing/Google is 6' (ryan gosling, jake Gyllenhaal, dicaprio, Christian bale, Chris pine are some that come to mind).
6' is the benchmark for height in Hollywood today, and if your under 6', you have a harder chance of being a male sex symbol in Hollywood. There has always been a mystique about the height of "6 foot", but it's now more prevalent than ever.
As for 6' 5", there are not many of those guys in Hollywood. Joey Maggs is the only famous one who comes to mind, but there are many actors in the 6' 1" to 6' 4" range.
In terms of women's preferences, most women (probably 70-80%) do not prefer a giant man, but since <1% of men are >6' 5", and there is a significant niche of women for these men, these men are the most desired. 6' 4" to 6' 5" is "Gods among men status" because of their rarity, imposing stature, and huge size. Women will always flock to them. 6' 6" and up is probably too tall

Very concise explanation here. I was just looking up celeb heights to find some of these actors. I haven't watched these vampire type shows, but I thought it was interesting to find out there were a bunch of tall guys in them.
It's just weird how the paradigm has shifted from Pitt's to Hemsworth's.
Could just be me but the Middle guy Tatum looks like he is using some noticeable lifts in that pic too.
-
he is 184 Cm according to celebheights which seems to be an accurate guess

middle guy is 185
others over 190 cm
When 1.85 cm stands between 19s cm guys just look like a small man
-
Skarsgård is 194CM I believe, Mangianello has, in my opinion, prett much the perfect height and build.
There is no phasing in hollywood though, plenty of short actors.
-
Hollywood actors are getting taller and most sex symbols are now altleast 185 cm .
185 cm is the new 183 cm I guess, it is the height you have to be to look good.

I partially disagree, 185 cm still looks decent next to 190 cm
-
I don't believe so. You've still got Pitt, Depp, DiCaprio (just under 6'0), Taylor Lautner (who is a Twilight pretty boy and slightly shorter than 5'9), Daniel Craig (the shortest bond yet), etc.
Taller men are harder to film as well. I don't think there's a phasing out of short male actors. People on this forum are probably just going to notice more if particular celebs are exceptionally tall, imo.

Even though your extreme generalization is dead wrong, your general premise is wrong as well. 5' 11" to 6' 2" is considered the ideal height range for physical attractiveness according to women's preferences.
If you were correct that 185 CM is the height you have to be to look good, than 10% of men just make it to the party. Then you have to consider physique, facial aesthetics, and style, and you are left with 2% of men looking good and 98% not looking good.
You are probably using the image of Hollywood good looks as a utopian ideology and aren't referring to "real life", but even in Hollywood, that number starts at 5' 11" (180 CM), or your brad pitts and George clooneys
-
No. Are any of us as old as Daniel Craig, Leo, Pitt or Ryan gosling? In fact in a way you could say that the sex symbols are actually getting shorter by comparing younger actors to the older ones. Some of the most famous early to late 20's heartthrobs (for women) would be Justin Beiber, Dave Franco, Taylor Lautner, Zac Efron and the One Direction group — all are in the 5'7-5'11 range.
But I don't think hollywood really cares too much about height because it doesn't matter in movies, it's easy to make a 5'7" guy look the same height as a 5'11" by having lower camera angles, in fact it makes it easier to have similar heights when filming with women.
-
Agree with w1998. I think in Hollywood, as long a guy is 5'7", if he's very good looking, you don't hear too much about his height. Tom Cruise is the exception to this (I think he's like between 5'7-5'8"), because he always dates women a lot taller than him. But we hardly hear about how Usher, Zac Efron, Robert Downey Jr and Mark Wahlberg are short (even if it is mentioned from time to time).
Guys that are under 5'6" like Daniel Radcliffe, Josh Hutcherson, Kevin Hart, the guy from Hawaii Five-0 (and more recently, Dave Franco)...you almost always hear about how short they are.

I hate to break it to you, but the guys you mentioned are sex symbols for young girls, not older girls and women
-
Absolutely, without question. The new guard of Hollywood studs- Channing Tatum, the Hemsworths, Bradley Cooper, Henry Cavill, Skarsgard, etc are all 6'+ males, and they are quickly replacing the older generation. I don't think we will be seeing any more Brad Pitts or Tom Cruises around anymore (in terms of height), not as big protagonists in blockbuster movies with extreme levels of fame like Pitt and Cruise had anyway. The age of short actors is over. Today's action packed blockbusters are absolutely filled with tall, all-american high testosterone looking, square jawed males and their physical forms.
If you ask socially conscious young women who pay attention to celebrities and are aware of the latest trends (so 85+% of them) who the hottest actors are, they'll tell you Hemsworth, Decaprio, Channing Tatum, etc. No old little men past their primes who coping short males use as examples of desirable sex symbols, like Pitt or Cruise.
-
Take off your tinfoil hat.
-
There are always roles for short and tall actors. So I don't believe that short males are being phased out. Hollywood will require them in later movies. Just look at the movie, Lord of the Ring, what tall men can play the role of the hobbit? lol
But if we're just talking about sex symbol, I agree that height is attraction. And coming from a culture that idolize football and basketball stars, I wouldn't be surprised even more.
Movies is after-all a business and 50% of the movie-goers are women (I think this figure is higher b/c men are cheap). Women want to go see a movie that would workout their fantasy. Asking women what they want to see is like asking what is their sexual preference. A movie that comes to mind that is so crappy and every critic think it's suck but still become a blockbuster hit is 50 Shades of Grey. An average girl who got on with a tall, handsome, intellectual, billionaire, under 27 who speaks French and does charity work and who send her sexual texting constantly. I only know this movie because the book version is the best seller on amazon - it's like pornographic for female.
An equivalent movie for men is Austin Power, a short, unattractive but comic male who is the sex symbol and gets on with beautiful women and ends up saving the world. But I haven't seen this type of movie for a long time so maybe it's true that short male is being faze out of the sexual arena (jk)
In terms of hollywood trend, I'm really far behind, and it's worst that I only prefer horror genre. The only actor up there that I recognize is Chris Hemprey and that's only because Jay Leno made fun about it in the late night show.
-
Many of the Hollywood role models and sex symbols decades ago were also much taller than average.
As an example:
Clark Gable - 6'1
Burt Lancaster - 6'1
Cary Grant - 6'1.5
Sean Connery - 6'2
Victor Mature - 6'2.5
Johnny Weissmuller - 6'3
Gregory Peck - 6'3
Gary Cooper - 6'3
Charlton Heston - 6'3
Christopher Reeve - 6'4
Clint Eastwood - 6'4
John Wayne - 6'4
There are probably more short males getting leading roles now than there were before.
-
Fun fact: naturally 6'4 (194CM) John Wayne often wore 3-4 inch shoe lifts!
He was already taller than over 99% of men. Who could he possibly have been trying to be taller than? Lol.
http://www.celebheights.com/a/9.html (http://www.celebheights.com/a/9.html)

Maybe he had "tall-man syndrome"?

I think you also have to understand that some of it had to do with filming.
You want the leading man to be one of the taller or the tallest people in the shot so that he stands out. It makes filming a lot easier if the lead actor is tall, so that they don't have to worry about the heights of the other actors, and don't have to use weird camera angles to make the lead actor appear taller.

According to OKCupid stats this is probably true. Only 20% of men are considered attractive, whereas men assess women according to a symmetrical bell-shaped curve...

This is silly, you’re talking about Hollywood dude.
Plenty of guys dream of Kim kardashian figures, in real life we settle for less.
It’s not like every women goes for these guys otherwise the average height wouldn’t be 5’9-5’10 in the states or wherever you live at, that concept is retarded lol. 5’10-6ft is still very attractive to most women, of course when you put that height next to 6’5 it may look short, but that’s the same concept of putting your girlfriends C cups next to demi lovato. Everyone in this forum fantasizes about 190cm+ and talks about it like it’s average, well reality check it’s not lol and if Hollywood selects this truly then realize it’s still less than 1 percent of the population and you’re fine at 5’10 and up, even at 5’8-5’9 it’s not terrible, I’m slightly over 5’5 and I’m married to someone who is my height and who is attractive. Even before that I landed nines and dimes by taking care of hygiene’s and having perfect teeth from braces, nice features such as hair/jawline/dressing nice etc, wearing good shoes and 1’ lifts, of course I might have missed on out some females or it might have been easier at a taller height, but hey 90% of those females weren’t nines and dimes without make up and lip fillers. In fact, females don’t have a say in critiquing height when whatever feature they have that’s ugly they just cover it up with make up, it’s literally the same thing. No butt or boobs? Surgery. Nose big or ugly? Surgery. Lips to small? Surgery or filler. Fat? Surgery or waist restraint, the list doesn’t end
Sure height is a big factor about that men you are posting, but if you didn’t realize they all have other key masculine features such as jawline, broad shoulders, etc
If you look for a Tesla car you will spot them more often than if you are not looking for one. You guys are just obsessing over height as of being 6’5 will help you bag a girl because if you look repulsive at 5,5 you’ll only still look slightly less repulsive at a taller height
-
Societal appreciation of tall works.Short males are forced out of any kind of competations, such as dating, career, let alone acting. Thus Id like to sacrifice both health and wealth only for normal height
-
What should I say? I feel the same way as you people here although I am considered "tall" with 185 but still just looking up to the 190 guys :(

Either you are trolling or retarded or lying about your height if you feel the same one, you can’t possibly feel the same way being 6ft+ as guys in this forum who are 5’4 5’ 6’ in a society compared to 5’9-6’1 other men
Even being in Netherlands th at height is average
-
i would quite literally break a leg to get to 175 let alone 185 ;D ;D
u have a lucky height canon dont worry about it
-
Y'all weird.. Being over 6'3 isn't something good.. For all those who are incels: girls don't even like that much height, they find it gigantic, plus scary which is understandable.
The best height is 180 to 188 cm. That's all I'm going to say. Good night.

Many taller members here are mentally ill and believe that the best height is something like 1.95.
In reality that height does not look good in most men and generally is not convenient at all (not easy to find clothes, not easy to drive etc).
But as I wrote, some mentally ill people can't understand all these and believe that the taller the better, like girls with anorexia that believe the slimer the better and die from starvation.
Hollywood has many average to short-average actors like Effron and Wahlberg as tall ones like Rock, Kutcher etc and both have many fans.
There are even short actors like Hutcherson, Scott Kaan etc but yes they are a minority like 1.65 men are a minority in society also, not only in Hollywood.
I believe that Hollywood are more open minded than many societies nowadays in that kind of things.

Now you called another ''weird'' and your opinion now becomes fact.
All I have to say is, There is a lot of people who are 180cm on this forum, still want to do LL.
There are no ways 6'3 is considered sacred. 190 is pretty great height in a rich kid in a European country.
The scariest part about this is someone like you who thinks it's weird to considered ''6'3'' a scary and gigantic height for a man.

Agree. Trump son is 14 years old, he is around 195-197. He doesn't look feel comfortable with that height, the ways he walks are like '' these legs is very hard to move''.
If there is a strong wind, I think his legs are going to broke.
In my opinion, I will rather be 5'11 than be 195. But for below 5'11, it's kind of interesting question

These days anything less than 8 feet is unacceptable. IMO 8 feet is the average height among gen Z these days.
