Title: if money wasnt an issue...?
Post by: Moose on October 04, 2014, 08:05:38 PM
would it be wise to go precice 2 on both tibia and femurs? what would be the possible long term effects of doing this? which would you prefer doing first or how would you go about it? if not precice 2 internal what would be the safer method to go about this surgery? looking for a 9cm to 10.5 cm gain.

Ideally, the consensus is that you'd do an internal femoral lengthening and an external only tibial lengthening with a frame capable of deformity correction. The frames are a nuisance, bu I didn't necessarily find them barbaric. They're tolerable for what you get out of them. For femurs, internal is a trade off between comfort and pain, and in he tibiae it is between proper function or failure. A well installed Ilizarov frame can't really fail, and if a component does, it is easily and cheaply replaced.

You'd also want to maintain or stay very near to the particular ratio you began with in the segments of the legs, so you would lengthen the femurs more than the tibiae. This all goes without saying you'd pick a doctor well versed in the practice.

yeah i figured i would do something like 3.8-4.2cm in the tibia and 5cm to 5.4cm in the femur. I dont want to be greedy with the height as im hoping to retain as much as my athleticism as possible as i am 5'5. 5'8 to 5'9 in natural height without shoes would make me really happy but like anyone im worried about long term and not much about the scaring. Currently i can run a 4.7 40 yard dash and in sports im really good at soccer and able to block/spike a volleyball (i get props on my ups and i friggin love destroying tall guys) just the fact it is annoying automatically being disregarded because of height even with women. I do want to do this surgery to be the best that i can be and for my own mentality but i also want my future girl to feel really lucky and not think "what if"...

also what do you mean by trading comfort and pain with precice? does it affect my future comfort?

one mo thing jackie. is there a downside to internal like does it take longer to be active again doing an internal method whereas if you did an external (which would be much cheaper) you could get up moving again quickly.

Honestly, I think the best internal device is the Guichet nail. The Precice is good, but the Guichet nail is simply unbelievable.
